University of Jaffna Library

The Library for the University of Jaffna was designed with two buildings beside each other to allow for maximising natural light with the inner courtyard and long vertical split windows. The separation of spaces was not purely aesthetic but served a functional purpose where the ancillary spaces such as seminar rooms and common spaces were brought to the front of building allowing for privacy and quieter spaces for study. Both buildings follow the same material palette and proportions to indicate the connection between the buildings however each building catches the light differently in terms of orientation and positionong of the long vertical strip windows.
