Dambulla Eco Lodge

The project involves the detailed design of a 1.09-hectare boutique hotel, comprising 12 lodges and seven ancillary buildings at a 15% plot coverage. With sustainability at the forefront, wind chimneys were introduced to encourage passive cooling, while brick was selected not only for its regional character but also for its thermal properties. Lodge orientation and layout were critical in maximising passive cooling; through multiple design iterations, the scheme achieves minimal impact on the surrounding environment and reduced operational energy consumption. The project remains in the planning process due to statutory restrictions.
