Project Title

Open University of Sri Lanka

Client

Ministry of Higher Education (Under the Distance Education Modenization Project)

Type of Building

For the open university, two projects were undertaken, the entrance as well as a four storey building for the Media Source Centre (currently known as the “Faculty of Education”). An iconic entrance for the Open University of Colombo, serves as both a gateway to the university and as an administrative office. Designed to reflect the bold new direction the university was embarking on, the building has strong sweeping features with warm earthen colours and natural ventilation resulting in a positive learning environment. The Media Source Centre was designed for accommodating several computer labs and media facilities as well as teaching, admin and office spaces . Designed around a central atrium, the building takes maximum advantage of natural daylight and ventilation, reducing the requirement for energy intensive cooling systems.
